So sorry if I am getting old cows out of the river (that’s a dutch saying doesn’t work in english maybe) Part of my graduation work ‘’An index of... ( things I might forget , During the exhibithion, 150 scripts were offered to the audience, free to take. Next to that, a back and forth conversation between two speakers, with every message including the word ‘’sorry’’.

Have you ever asked yourself why? Sorry, maybe I shouldn’t have started like that. So often I find myself in situations, situations of apologising. Why the impulse comes before the pause, why the mouth says ‘’sorry’’ before the body knows what for. As if my presence arrived to loud, as if taking space needs to be justified before I even enter the room. I retrace my words like footprints in wet sand, soft, uncertain, already disappearing. Do I speak to much?

Do you know the kids book: ‘’Guess how much I love you’’? In my language ‘’Raad eens hoeveel ik van je hou’’,
and in your language ‘’Weisst du eigentlich, wie lieb ich dich hab’’.  It was one of my favourite books when I was a kid. Everytime I love something or someone, I associate it with visual length.  From point A, to point B.

Wash, wait , touch, fold,
2 washing machine doors,

In the autumn of 2023, in my bedroom in Ghent, I took a photo of one of my socks hanging on the clothesline. My attic room was often filled with clean laundry. It felt as if I had built my own tent, one I could live in every day until the towels were dry again. When I think back to my time in Ghent, I often think of the laundry.

Back then, I would often sit on the kitchen floor, watching the washing machine, the rhythm and colors of the wash, the soap splashing against the glass. I understand why mothers sometimes place their babies next to the washing machine to calm them down.

From washing to drying to folding. From left, from right, bottom to top, turn it over, into the closet, and then again.

Counting the days

Breadclips year 2015 till 2020

In the work counting the days, I sorted together with the audience bread clips from 2015 till 2020 by date. First by year, then by month, then by day. At first glance, it’s not immediately clear that the bread clips are arranged by date. The dates that are missing are filled in with an empty placeholder, a kind of gap in time. The dates that appear more than once are carefully placed side by side. A repetition occurs.

A apple to sharePerformance, duration 00:05:30

In July, during my stay in Stuttgart, I wrote a text about sharing an apple. I shared that apple with Bea and Noor, with whom I worked closely for two weeks. It was a meaningful moment, a small ritual I wanted to capture. Later, I rewrote the text for a performance with Luca in August, which gave the memory and the original moment a new layer. Then again, in October, I combined the two texts and shared an apple with my class, allowing the story and the experience to develop and transform once more.
